The Smart NewYear Choice
I love my iPhone. Love it so much, in fact, that I have two, one for personal use and one for business calls.

But would I give an iPhone as a gift? Well, maybe. But it's not a slam dunk.

If you have an iPhone and your prospective recipient has never shown a hint of interest in it, show them a few

things it can do. If their attention wanders, you might be better off gifting a Netflix subscription.

The iPhone has a huge array of intuitive features, but what's intuitive to you and me isn't so for everyone. I

believe the device will make life easier for almost anyone, but if you're going to give it as a gift you should be

prepared to spend some time with the recipient showing how things work. At a minimum you should demonstrate how to

retrieve voicemail, what the settings do, how to create contacts using the phone's built-in camera and how to make

phone calls without using the key pad.

Unless you want your gift to be shoved in the back of the closet.

And you might want to hold off on urging your giftee to download a bunch of apps for the phone, even though there

are more than 5,000 available, at least until s/he is comfortable using it.
